Bircher Muesli Recipe

While I was living in Switzerland one of my Swiss friends introduced me to bircher muesli, a delicious, healthy treat to enjoy for a light evening meal.  As a Kiwi used to having a main meal at dinner time I have it for breakfast instead.  One of the things I love about this recipe is how easy it is to make and how versatile it is.  Once you have added the main ingredients you can spice it up with anything that you have on hand.


3/4 cup of rolled oats
1/2 cup milk
1 pottle yoghurt
1 apple grated
1 handful of raisins

Combine all ingredients in a container and leave to soak overnight
Serve with fresh fruit, nuts and honey or maple syrup if desired

Alternate Options
Replace grated apple with pear
Vary your flavours of yoghurt
Replace raisins with other dried fruit

Just writing this recipe has inspired me to get up and make it again for breakfast tomorrow. Enjoy
