Baklava – Recipe

Baklava is one of my husbands favourite desserts.  I used to think that it was something extremely difficult to make, but in reality it’s not.  It is however a little time consuming.

You will need:

Syrup
1 cup of sugar
1 cup of water
1 squeeze of lemon juice

Heat stirring until sugar has dissolved then simmer for a few minutes and allow to cool.

Baklava
1packet of filo pastry
melted butter
coconut, nuts (chopped up) and / or raisins

Butter the dish then layer the filo pastry spreading butter on each layer.  At 1/3 and 2/3rds the way sprinkle some of your nut mixture.
Bake on 180 C until golden brown (around 30 minutes).
Pour the syrup over the baklava while it is still hot.
